Yufuin Station, the gateway to the hot spring resort of Yufuin, was designed by Arata Isozaki, an architect from Oita Prefecture, and from the concourse with its 12-meter-high atrium, you can see Mount Yufu in front.
The building uses a cross-vault structure with intersecting semicircular tubes like kamaboko, which is often seen in church architecture.
It is one of the few stations in Japan that does not have a ticket gate.
The station is also home to the Yufuin Station Art Hall, which serves as a waiting room and hosts a variety of events such as photo exhibitions and craft exhibitions every month.
